That means the Spurs can match any offer another team makes if he even reaches free agency, which seems unlikely. Wemby will be a Spur for a long time unless something strange happens.
The Spurs traded for De’Aaron Fox, and he’s now their best-paid player, making over $37 million this year and slated to get paid an average of $58 million over the next four. He’s one of the best-paid players in the league after signing an extension.
There’s nothing too unusual. The most interesting contract is Keldon Johnson’s, as he signed an extension that decreased in value as the years went by.
